New Delhi, April 25: Delhi Capitals fast bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a severe and frightening head injury during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Friday, and was stretchered off the ground and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for urgent medical evaluation.

How the Incident Unfolded

The alarming incident took place in the third over of the innings when left-handed Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya attempted to loft spinner Axar Patel over mid-off. Ngidi sprinted backward in an attempt to pouch the catch but badly misjudged the trajectory of the ball.

The South African pacer lost his footing and crashed heavily onto the ground, striking the back of his head with significant force. He remained motionless for a prolonged period, triggering immediate concern across the stadium.

Medical Emergency on the Field

Medical personnel, including the Delhi Capitals team physio and doctor, rushed onto the pitch as players gathered around the stricken bowler with visibly tense expressions. The crowd at Arun Jaitley Stadium fell completely silent, sensing the gravity of the situation.
