Bhopal, March 9 (NationPress) Tragically, two young girls lost their lives due to drowning, and a third is currently feared to be submerged after they entered a canal for bathing in the village of Parswara, situated in the Umariapan police jurisdiction of Katni district.

The deceased were identified as Siddhika Lodhi, Manvi, Anshika Patel, and Ananya Patel, all residents of the same village. While Siddhika, Manvi, and Anshika drowned in the canal, Ananya was rescued.

The victims were siblings. Although villagers succeeded in saving one girl, the others were carried away by the swift current.

A senior police official confirmed to IANS from Katni that one girl returned home safely while efforts to locate the missing girl are ongoing.

Regrettably, two girls have perished in this drowning incident.

“The bodies of two girls have been retrieved, and autopsies have been conducted. The search for the third girl is still underway,” stated Prabhat Shukla, Deputy Superintendent of Police, during a phone call with IANS.

Authorities from the police and Home Guard successfully recovered the bodies of two girls from the canal, while the search for the third continues. The four girls had ventured to bathe on the right bank of the Bargi dam canal but unfortunately slipped into deep waters, leading to the tragedy.

“The age of the girls ranged from 7 to 12 years,” the police official noted. Police and Home Guard teams arrived at the location to conduct the rescue operation, eventually finding the bodies of Siddhika and Anshika.

The search for Manvi remains active.

Siddhika was a seventh-grade student, while her younger sister Manvi was in third grade. Their father, Manoj Lodhi, is a labourer in Mumbai, and their mother is a homemaker.

Anshika is in ninth grade, and Ananya is in sixth grade.

A woman who witnessed the girls drowning quickly raised an alarm for assistance. She ran to a nearby farmer’s field, where Deepchand, a farmer, was working.

Upon hearing the cries for help, Deepchand rushed to the canal and managed to rescue one girl, but the others were not visible to him.

He called for further assistance from the villagers, who gathered at the scene and notified the police.
