Yangon, Jan 20 (NationPress) Myanmar's law enforcement authorities have successfully confiscated 966,000 stimulant tablets in the Shan state, as reported by the official Global New Light of Myanmar on Monday.
Following a reliable tip-off, a collaborative anti-narcotics task force intercepted a vehicle in Kengtung township on January 16 and seized the illicit drugs.
The value of the confiscated drugs exceeds 380 million kyats (approximately $180,000), according to the report.
Investigations indicated that these stimulant tablets were set to be trafficked from Mong Ping township to Tachileik township within Shan state, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Individuals implicated in this case have been charged under national laws, with ongoing investigations in progress.
Earlier, on January 6, Myanmar authorities had also confiscated 91 kg of heroin in eastern Shan state, as per the state-run daily Myanma Alinn.
Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police conducted a search of a vehicle in Kengtung township on January 1, seizing the narcotics, the report detailed.
The street value of the confiscated heroin was estimated at 1.365 billion kyats (about $650,000), leading to the arrest of two suspects.
According to investigations, these drugs were being transported from Kunhing township to Tachileik township in Shan state.
Charges have been filed against the suspects under the country’s laws, with further inquiries ongoing.
