Myanmar Authorities Confiscate 91 kg of Heroin in Shan State

Yangon, Jan 6 (NationPress) Authorities in Myanmar have successfully intercepted 91 kg of heroin blocks in the eastern region of Shan state, according to a report from the state-run daily Myanma Alinn on Monday.
Following a tip-off, anti-narcotics officers conducted a search of a vehicle in Kengtung township on January 1, leading to the confiscation of the illicit drugs, as detailed in the report.
The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is around 1.365 billion kyats (approximately $650,000), and two individuals have been arrested in connection with this case.
Investigations indicate that the drugs were being transported from Kunhing township to Tachileik township within Shan state.
The arrested suspects have been charged under national laws, and further investigations are ongoing, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
In a separate incident on January 4, authorities seized 60 kg of ICE (methamphetamine) in the same region of Shan state, as reported by The Mirror.
Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched another vehicle in Kengtung township on December 30, resulting in the seizure of these drugs.
The street value of the confiscated ICE was assessed at 480 million kyats (around $228,571) and one suspect was arrested.
Investigative efforts revealed that the meth was being moved from Mong Ping township to Tachileik township.
The suspect has been charged under local laws, and further investigations are in progress.
On January 3, the same newspaper reported that authorities had confiscated 40.2 kg of heroin blocks and 200,000 stimulant tablets in the region.
Following another tip-off, officers searched a vehicle in Mong Pan township on December 28, 2024, resulting in the capture of these drugs.
The estimated worth of the drugs taken was approximately 540 million kyats (around $257,142) and two individuals were arrested.
These suspects have also been charged under national laws, with ongoing investigations.
On January 2, authorities announced the seizure of 11 kg of heroin and 200,000 stimulant tablets in central Myanmar.
Following a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Chanayethazan township of the Mandalay region on December 27, 2024, confiscating 2.8 kg of heroin and apprehending two suspects.
Further investigation uncovered 8.2 kg of heroin and 200,000 stimulant tablets at another suspect's residence in the same township, bringing the total value of the seized drugs to 575 million kyats (approximately $0.27 million).
All three suspects have been charged under national laws, with additional investigations ongoing.
