Yangon, February 9 (NationPress) Authorities in Myanmar have intercepted a drug trafficking operation in the central Mandalay region, resulting in the confiscation of 11 kg of heroin and more than 4.6 million stimulant tablets, according to local media reports on Sunday.
Following a tip-off, the anti-narcotics police executed a search operation in Pyigyitagon township on February 1, leading to the seizure of 11 kg of heroin, as reported by Xinhua news agency and the state-run daily, The Mirror.
Further inquiries unveiled over 4.6 million stimulant tablets stored in a warehouse within the same township, the report stated.
The total value of the seized narcotics, including the 11 kg of heroin and the stimulant tablets, has been estimated at more than 7.3 billion kyats (approximately 3.47 million US dollars) on the black market.
Those implicated in the drug trafficking operation have been charged in accordance with national laws, and investigations are continuing.
On the preceding Thursday, authorities also confiscated 200,000 stimulant tablets in southern Myanmar, according to local media.
Acting on another tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a motorcycle in Myeik town, located in the Tanintharyi region, on January 31, recovering 40,000 stimulant tablets along with a suspect.
Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of an additional 160,000 stimulant tablets at the suspect's residence in Myeik, the report noted.
Another suspect involved in drug trafficking was apprehended in Kyunsu township of the Tanintharyi region on February 3.
The total street value of the confiscated drugs was approximately 600 million kyats (around 280,000 US dollars).
The ongoing seizures of stimulant tablets are part of the authorities' relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking across the nation.
Earlier this month, authorities also seized over 170,000 stimulant tablets in the central Mandalay region, as reported by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC).
The anti-narcotics police conducted a raid on a guesthouse in Chanmyathazi township, confiscating 2,000 stimulant tablets and arresting a suspect.
Further investigation led to the discovery of 171,000 additional tablets at the suspect's home in Patheingyi township.
The total value of the seized drugs was estimated to exceed 346 million kyats (around 0.164 million US dollars).
