Major Drug Bust in Myanmar

Yangon, Dec 18 (NationPress) Authorities in Myanmar have confiscated a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics in the Shan state. Following a tip-off, anti-narcotics officers conducted a search at a residence in Tachileik town on December 14, seizing 141 kg of ICE (methamphetamine), 23 kg of ketamine, and 128,000 ecstasy pills, as reported by the state-run daily The Mirror on Wednesday.
On the same day, law enforcement executed another raid at a separate residence in the same locality, confiscating two kg of happy water, 16,000 happy-5 tablets, and 9 kg of ecstasy powder, according to the report.
The total street value of the narcotics is estimated to exceed 5.7 billion kyats (approximately $2.7 million) on the illegal market. Three individuals have been apprehended in relation to these incidents, the report stated.
The arrested suspects are facing charges under national law, with ongoing investigations taking place.
Furthermore, the Myanmar police have eradicated 960 acres of opium fields located in eastern Shan state, as reported on Wednesday.
In the Loilem district, police destroyed opium fields situated in Loilem township and to the west of Panglong town in Shan state. The eradication of these opium fields, which were cultivated in hilly regions and on mountain slopes, occurred between December 7 and December 15 of this year.
Last month, authorities in Myanmar had also confiscated significant quantities of narcotic substances in the Mandalay and Sagaing regions, as reported by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC).
The seized narcotics included over 150 kg of heroin, more than five million stimulant tablets, 412 kg of ICE (methamphetamine), and three tonnes of caffeine, according to the Xinhua news agency.
On November 6, another seizure included 13.2 kg of heroin in Kale township and 89.8 kg of heroin in Chanmyathazi township of the Mandalay region, as stated by the CCDAC.
The prior day, authorities also confiscated 51.03 kg of heroin, three tonnes of caffeine, 5.51 million stimulant tablets, and 412 kg of ICE in Kale township of the Sagaing region.
