Myanmar Authorities Capture 60 kg of Methamphetamine

Yangon, Jan 4 (NationPress) Authorities in Myanmar have successfully confiscated 60 kg of ICE (methamphetamine) in the eastern region of Shan state, according to a report from the state-run daily The Mirror published on Saturday.

Following a tip-off, anti-narcotics officials conducted a search of a vehicle in Kengtung township on December 30, and discovered the illegal drugs, the report stated.

The estimated value of the seized narcotics is 480 million kyats (approximately 228,571 US dollars) on the black market, and one suspect has been apprehended in relation to this incident, it added.

Investigations revealed that the drugs were being transported from Mong Ping township to Tachileik township within Shan state, the report noted.

The arrested individual is facing charges under local laws, and ongoing investigations are in progress, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

On the previous Friday, the same newspaper reported the seizure of 40.2 kg of heroin blocks and 200,000 stimulant tablets in the same vicinity.

Based on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Mong Pan township in southern Shan state on December 28, 2024, leading to the confiscation of these narcotics, according to a report.

The confiscated drugs are valued at approximately 540 million kyats (about 257,142 US dollars), and two suspects were arrested in connection with this case, it specified.

Those suspects are also facing charges under the country's laws, and further investigations are ongoing.

Additionally, on Thursday, authorities announced the seizure of 11 kg of heroin and 200,000 stimulant tablets in central Myanmar.

Acting on another tip-off, anti-narcotics police conducted a search in Chanayethazan township in the Mandalay region on December 27, 2024, resulting in the confiscation of 2.8 kg of heroin along with the arrest of two suspects, the report mentioned.

Investigations later uncovered 8.2 kg of heroin and 200,000 stimulant tablets at another suspect's residence within the same township.

The total value of the seized narcotics from this operation is approximately 575 million kyats (around 0.27 million US dollars).

All three suspects have been charged under local laws, and investigations continue, the report concluded.
