Myanmar Authorities Confiscate Over 5 Million Stimulant Tablets and 170 Kg of Narcotics

Yangon, Dec 28 (NationPress) Authorities in Myanmar have successfully intercepted 5.23 million stimulant tablets, 170 kg of ICE (methamphetamine), and 2.6 kg of Happy Water in the Bago region, as reported by the state-run newspaper The Mirror on Saturday.
Following a tip-off, anti-narcotics officers conducted a search of a vehicle in Bago town on December 20, uncovering the illicit drugs concealed within iron boxes, according to Xinhua news agency citing The Mirror.
The estimated value of the confiscated narcotics exceeds 14.1 billion kyats (approximately $6.71 million), and four individuals have been detained in connection with this case.
Investigations revealed that the drugs originated from southern Shan state and were destined for Yangon region, Rakhine state, and Kayin state.
The suspects have been charged under national law, and inquiries are ongoing.
Earlier, on December 18, a substantial drug haul was reported in Myanmar's Shan state. Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police raided a residence in Tachileik town on December 14, seizing 141 kg of ICE (methamphetamine), 23 kg of ketamine, and 128,000 ecstasy pills.
On the same day, authorities executed another raid at a different location in Tachileik, confiscating 2 kg of Happy Water, 16,000 Happy-5 tablets, and 9 kg of ecstasy powder, with an estimated black market value exceeding 5.7 billion kyats (around $2.7 million). Three suspects were arrested in connection with these incidents.
These individuals have also been charged under national law, with further investigations underway.
Additionally, Myanmar police have destroyed 960 acres of opium fields in the eastern Shan state, as reported by the daily. In Loilem district, opium fields located in Loilem township and west of Panglong town were eradicated between December 7 and December 15 of this year.
In the previous month, authorities in Myanmar seized large quantities of narcotics in Mandalay and Sagaing regions, as reported by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC).
The confiscated items included over 150 kg of heroin, over five million stimulant tablets, 412 kg of ICE (methamphetamine), and three tonnes of caffeine.
On November 6, an additional 13.2 kg of heroin was seized in Kale township, along with 89.8 kg of heroin in Chanmyathazi township of the Mandalay region.
