Mehsana, April 15 (NationPress) The irrigation from the Narmada canal is now reaching the fields in Mehsana district, marking a pivotal point in agricultural development. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized this achievement during a series of public meetings on Wednesday, where he also discussed ongoing infrastructure enhancements across Gujarat.
While addressing the 'Vikas Sankalp Sabhas' ahead of local self-government elections, Patel highlighted that the provision of irrigation water signifies a major improvement for a region previously burdened by groundwater scarcity.
“Thanks to the unwavering commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Narmada canals have successfully brought water to Mehsana district’s fields,” he remarked, recalling the area's past designation as a dark zone that limited borewell permissions.
Patel underscored Gujarat’s positive economic growth, noting that the state budget has surged from ₹30,000 crore to ₹4 lakh crore, showcasing the rapid pace of development in Gujarat.
He also mentioned upcoming connectivity initiatives, including an eight-lane highway between Mehsana and Adalaj, which is expected to significantly boost regional development and enhance transport infrastructure.
In his address, Patel laid out various welfare initiatives targeting the agricultural sector, including soil health cards, micro-irrigation systems, water conservation programs, the Jyotigram initiative, livestock health camps, dairy support, and the Kisan Credit Card scheme.

In health initiatives, he mentioned that the Ayushman Bharat scheme offers cashless treatment coverage of up to ₹10 lakh.
Patel pointed out the industrial growth in Gujarat, indicating that the number of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) has increased from 1.83 lakh to 27 lakh units, thereby enhancing employment opportunities.
He noted that BJP workers maintain ongoing engagement with the public, stating, “A BJP worker is present among the people throughout the year, whereas other parties are only active during elections.”
Additionally, he congratulated the unopposed election of 28 members in the Kadi municipality during the local body polls.
