Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) The government is on the verge of launching a fresh policy regarding Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) aimed at bolstering the current structure throughout the entire bio-gas value chain, as announced by Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Thursday.
During a conversation with IANS at the India Energy Week in Goa, Puri mentioned that this forthcoming CBG policy will leverage the discussions and results that emerged from the conference.
“The focus of the new policy will be on offering financial assistance for machinery needed for biomass aggregation, and it will also introduce initiatives aimed at enhancing pipeline infrastructure, thereby facilitating better transportation and distribution of bio-gas nationwide,” Puri stated.
The minister reiterated the government's dedication to establishing a robust and sustainable energy environment, noting that India’s policy framework for CBG is already strong, with this new initiative set to further fortify the sector.
“Bio-gas and CBG are crucial in India's shift towards cleaner and more affordable energy alternatives, particularly in rural and agricultural areas,” Puri remarked after a two-day high-level conference held on January 28 and 29.
He also emphasized India’s wider energy goals, reaffirming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intent to invest approximately $500 billion in the energy sector in the upcoming years.
“The India Energy Week has established itself as a vital platform to highlight India’s expanding role in the global energy arena and to draw in international collaborations,” Puri informed IANS.
Regarding international collaboration, the minister mentioned the ongoing discussions surrounding the India–European Union free trade agreement, asserting that energy cooperation will be a key element of deeper economic ties between India and the EU.
He also addressed global issues, including unrest in West Asia, stating that such geopolitical factors impact energy markets, making energy security a top priority for India.
Puri revealed that the Indian Oil Corporation has entered into a memorandum of understanding with French energy giant ENGIE to explore strategic collaboration in the LNG and gas sector.
This partnership is expected to enhance Indian Oil's presence throughout the entire LNG and natural gas value chain, improving India’s access to cleaner fuels.
