Guwahati, Oct 16 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made remarkable strides under the Ministry of Railways’ One Station, One Product (OSOP) initiative, according to officials on Thursday.
The OSOP initiative is designed to uplift local artisans and entrepreneurs by offering them a platform to display and sell their unique products at railway stations.
NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, stated that as of October 2025, a total of 112 stations within NFR's jurisdiction are now equipped with operational OSOP outlets, encompassing 135 functional units.
He highlighted that in the Alipurduar Division (West Bengal), 12 stations are operational, the Katihar Division (Bihar) has 23, while Assam’s Lumding Division boasts 32, followed by Rangiya Division with 20 and Tinsukia Division with 25.
OSOP outlets have been established across various regions, with 71 stations in Assam, 26 in West Bengal, 8 in Bihar, 4 in Tripura, 2 in Arunachal Pradesh, and 1 in Nagaland, as noted by Sharma.
This initiative has significantly enhanced local crafts, traditional products, and self-employment prospects throughout the Northeast, aligning with the ‘Vocal for Local’ vision.
Alongside OSOP, NFR is also rolling out the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK) scheme, which aims to provide high-quality generic medications at reasonable prices to passengers and local residents.
Currently, five PMBJK units are operational in Katihar, Badarpur, Agartala, New Tinsukia, and New Coochbehar.
These efforts highlight the Northeast Frontier Railway’s unwavering dedication to social welfare, economic empowerment, and passenger convenience, while also promoting traditional crafts and sustaining the livelihoods of local communities.
The Northeast Frontier Railway operates across the Northeastern states and in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of northern Bihar.
Notably, the OSOP initiative bears resemblance to the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) plan. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) approved ODOP for 713 districts across 35 states and Union Territories in December 2023 under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, based on state and Union Territory recommendations and consultations with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
