New Delhi, Sep 19 (NationPress) Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Operation Sindoor has exemplified that India is capable of shaping its own destiny, stated Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday, while honoring the courage of veterans from the 1965 war.
While engaging with veterans to celebrate the diamond jubilee of India's triumph over Pakistan in 1965 at an event hosted by the Indian Army at South Block, the Defence Minister remarked, "The cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam still fills our hearts with pain and grief. It shook us but didn't break our morale. PM Modi took a pledge to teach terrorists a lesson they never could have imagined."
He added, "Operation Sindoor demonstrated to our adversaries the strength we possess. The coordination and bravery displayed by our forces during this operation serve as evidence that achieving victory is no longer an anomaly for us; it has become our norm. We must consistently uphold this norm."
"Our commitment to modernizing defense, enhancing soldier training, and upgrading equipment is designed to ensure that our forces never encounter a shortage of resources," he said, as per a statement from the Defence Ministry.
Attributing political will and leadership as crucial for triumph in warfare, the Defence Minister noted, "No conflict is solely fought on the battlefield; victory arises from the collective determination of the entire nation."
He reminisced about how in 1965, India confronted uncertainty and challenges, owing much to the steadfast leadership of then PM Lal Bahadur Shastri.
"He not only provided decisive political leadership but also elevated the spirits of the entire nation. Even in tough situations, we showcased unity and emerged victorious," Rajnath Singh emphasized.
The Defence Minister reaffirmed the government's steadfast commitment to the dignity and welfare of serving soldiers, veterans, and the families of fallen heroes, deeming it a "top priority."
In paying tribute to the brave souls of the 1965 war who made the ultimate sacrifice, Rajnath Singh stated, "Pakistan believed it could intimidate us through infiltration, guerrilla tactics, and surprise attacks, but it was unaware that every Indian soldier serves the motherland with the conviction that the sovereignty and integrity of our nation will never be compromised, regardless of the cost."
The ceremony was attended by Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding Delhi Area Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, along with other senior officers, decorated veterans, gallantry awardees, and families of the heroes from the 1965 war.
This event served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made during the 1965 war and aimed to inspire future generations to uphold the enduring values of courage, sacrifice, and service before self, as stated in the announcement.
