Priyanka Gandhi's 'Palestine' Handbag Sparks Controversy with BJP

New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's symbolic display of support for Palestine during Parliamentary proceedings on Monday stirred a range of reactions from the political arena, especially from the BJP.
A few BJP leaders expressed their discontent with Priyanka's stance on Palestine, labeling it as ‘communal posturing’ and a minority ‘appeasement stunt’.
Upon arriving at the Parliament complex, Priyanka Gandhi carried a handbag that featured a Palestine tag along with various Palestinian symbols.
While her intent was to show solidarity with the Palestinian people, many lawmakers, particularly those from the BJP, questioned why the Congress party did not emphasize ‘Indianness’ instead of showcasing affection for Palestine.
In contrast, members from the Opposition found no fault in her actions and suggested that it should encourage others to express their support for the war-torn nation.
Manoj Tiwari, in an interview with IANS, remarked that although the Congress advocates for Palestine, it is high time they display their 'Bharatiyata' without reservations.
"They will stand up for everything except for Bharat," the BJP MP jested, criticizing Priyanka's Palestinian handbag.
BJP MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra condemned her gesture, referring to it as a ‘bag of appeasement’.
"For the Gandhi family, appeasement is nothing new. From Nehru to Priyanka Vadra, they have perpetually carried the burden of appeasement, rather than a sense of patriotism. This legacy contributes to their defeats," Sambit Patra stated.
Anish Gawande, the National spokesperson for NCP-SP, expressed to IANS that there was nothing inappropriate about Priyanka advocating for Palestinians who have been facing severe aggression from Israeli forces.
“Priyanka Gandhi is among the few leaders in the nation who have spoken up for Palestine," he asserted.
It is noteworthy that the Congress General Secretary has consistently voiced her concerns regarding the rights of Palestinians and has often condemned Israel’s military operations as ‘barbaric and inhumane.’
