Barnala (Punjab), Feb 28 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, conveyed a serious message to the leadership of Punjab Congress on Saturday, urging them to cease their internal disputes and unite as a cohesive team in preparation for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Speaking to party members at a rally in Barnala as part of the ‘Save MNREGA, Save Farmers’ campaign, Gandhi emphasized that no individual, regardless of their rank or influence, surpasses the party's importance.
“A single player cannot secure victory. We are a collective, and I wish to relay this message to all of you — become a team player, or we will have to bench you. No matter how prominent you believe you are, remember, no one is above the party. Be a team player,” he declared emphatically.
He cautioned that if leaders do not collaborate effectively, disciplinary measures would be taken. “If anyone fails to act as a team player, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and I will intervene decisively,” he stated.
Gandhi also seized the opportunity to criticize the BJP-led central government regarding issues affecting farmers and workers.
“Punjab recognizes that the backbone of this nation is formed by farmers and workers. I am here to clarify what is transpiring in Delhi, what actions the Prime Minister has taken recently, and the repercussions that will follow,” he noted.
Mentioning a recent debate in Parliament subsequent to the President’s Address, Gandhi highlighted concerns based on assertions made by former Army Chief Manoj Naravane.
“The former Chief of Army Staff stated that Chinese tanks have been encroaching on Indian territory. I urge members of the armed forces and veterans to pay close attention,” he urged.
During his nearly half-hour speech, Gandhi elaborated on MGNREGA and the potential impacts of Indo-US trade relations on India's agricultural industry, suggesting that farmers might face severe challenges.
“Punjab represents our strength. Every time I visit, I observe the very foundation of India. You serve as our guardians, our cornerstone, and we hold deep affection for you,” he addressed the audience.
Barnala, historically viewed as a bastion of the Aam Aadmi Party, is a pivotal location for farmer and labor movements within the state, making Gandhi’s outreach politically crucial as Congress aims to solidify its support in Punjab ahead of the upcoming 2027 elections.
