New Delhi, Aug 2 (NationPress) The BJP and Congress clashed on Saturday following Rahul Gandhi's assertion that he was threatened by the late Union minister Arun Jaitley regarding the farm laws. The Congress party contended that this incident represented a failed attempt to stifle their leader's pro-farmer agenda.
As Rohan Jaitley vehemently denied Gandhi's claims, the Congress Party rallied behind their Leader of Opposition, alleging that the controversial threat was orchestrated by senior BJP officials.
Pawan Khera, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Department at AICC, stated on X, “What matters is not who delivered the threat, but who it served. The hand behind it was the Modi-Shah duo.”
Khera emphasized, “The aim of the threats was to silence us, but they have only reinforced our determination.”
In his post on X, Khera remarked, “This issue transcends a single Bill or Act; it’s about dismantling Rahul Gandhi’s unwavering defense of India’s farmers and the populace as a whole.”
The political uproar began after Gandhi mentioned at the party's Annual Legal Conclave 2025 that Arun Jaitley had threatened him with repercussions if he continued protesting against the three farm laws.
Shortly after, Rohan Jaitley expressed his astonishment and dismay at Gandhi's comments, stating, “The farm laws that Rahul Gandhi discusses were enacted in 2020, well over a year after my father's passing in August 2019. My father had been unwell for several months prior to his demise, making the notion of him threatening anyone on this matter implausible.”
In response, Khera took to social media to counter Rohan Jaitley's statements, detailing the sequence of events surrounding the alleged threats referenced by Gandhi.
Khera pointed out, “The Farm Laws of 2020 were merely the final piece of a lengthy, deliberate, anti-farmer agenda that the BJP government has been concocting.”
He added, “The initial assault occurred in December 2014, when Modi diluted the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Bill of 2013. Then came the so-called Model Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Act in 2017 – another covert attack on farmers’ rights.”
The AICC Media and Publicity Department chief concluded, “The Congress, under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, has consistently opposed these anti-farmer laws. It was in this context that the late Arun Jaitley visited 10 Janpath to deliver his threat, forgetting that Rahul Ji is a Gandhi, not a Savarkar.”
