New Delhi, Aug 2 (NationPress) Following the remarks made by Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, who alleged that the late Arun Jaitley had "threatened him" regarding the controversial farm laws, Rohan Jaitley, the son of the former Union Minister, decisively refuted this claim, asserting that it is entirely inaccurate and an effort to tarnish the reputation of a distinguished statesman who can no longer defend himself.
In an interview with IANS in New Delhi, Rohan Jaitley conveyed his astonishment and disappointment over Rahul Gandhi's statements.
“The farm laws that Rahul Gandhi is discussing were enacted in 2020, well over a year after my father's passing in August 2019. My father had been seriously ill for several months leading up to his death. Thus, the notion of him threatening anyone regarding this matter is utterly unfounded,” he stated.
Rohan highlighted that his father was revered for his unwavering commitment to democratic principles and civil discourse.
“Making threats was not part of his character. He championed respectful conversations, even with those who held opposing views. He was a cornerstone of a robust democracy,” he added, stressing that it is both inappropriate and disrespectful to make claims against someone who can no longer respond.
He also noted that this is not the first instance of Rahul Gandhi making dubious comments about deceased leaders. “Previously, he made similar statements about the late Manohar Parrikar. This recurring trend of targeting leaders who are unable to defend themselves is troubling, particularly from someone in a constitutional role.”
When questioned about potential legal action, Rohan indicated, “We will consider our options in due course. Irresponsible statements must face accountability eventually.”
He further asserted that Rahul Gandhi should offer an apology.
When asked if he believes Gandhi is exhibiting an inferiority complex or merely seeking attention, Rohan replied, “That is for him to clarify.”
