Patna, Aug 2 (NationPress) With the unveiling of the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, farmers throughout Bihar celebrated this initiative as a vital lifeline, especially for small and marginal cultivators.
This timely financial support has enabled farmers to maintain their agricultural operations and foster a sense of self-sufficiency, with many expressing their gratitude towards both the central and state authorities.
The funds were distributed during a national event led by the Prime Minister from Varanasi.
In Bihar, the state event took place at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna, featuring speeches from Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha, who addressed a gathering of farmers.
Minister Chouhan commended Bihar’s farmers, stating, “Today, I am thrilled to witness the enthusiasm from our farmers. They are committed to supporting local products, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of 'Vocal for Local.' This commitment even extends to cultural items like Rakhi, which sisters promise to purchase only if they are produced in India.”
He highlighted the extensive reach of the PM-KISAN scheme, mentioning, “A total of Rs 21,000 crore has been directly credited to the accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers nationwide. In recent years, the government has consistently worked to enhance farmers’ income, and this installment is a further step towards their economic empowerment.”
The minister also stressed the importance of Minimum Support Price (MSP) in guaranteeing farmers’ earnings, stating, “MSP is set based on market conditions, and the government facilitates procurement at these rates. Agriculture is the backbone of India’s economy, and the government remains committed to its development.”
Deputy CM Vijay Sinha referred to the day as 'Kisan Utsav' and remarked, “As our Prime Minister has rightly stated, the children of Bharat Mata will bolster the Indian economy by embracing indigenous products and practices. The PM-KISAN scheme embodies this spirit of empowerment.”
In the village of Fatehpur, located in Bihar’s Banka district, farmers celebrated the 20th installment with great joy.
Local farmer Manoj Kumar Singh expressed, “This financial assistance enables us to buy fertilizers, seeds, and manage other farming costs. It boosts our confidence and lessens our reliance on loans.”
Farmers observed the day as Kisan Samman Utsav Diwas, showing appreciation for both the financial support and the government’s ongoing commitment to agriculture. They emphasized how the scheme has restored dignity and independence to their labor.
Farmer Sakun Prasad Singh from Kathel village in Banka district shared, “The funds arrived just in time for paddy transplantation. Timely support allows me to avoid borrowing at exorbitant interest rates. This scheme serves as a lifeline for small farmers like myself, making expenses like fertilizers, seeds, and labor wages manageable.”
Another farmer from Kathel, Rajesh Kumar Singh, voiced similar thoughts.
“Farming is time-sensitive. When funds come on time, it minimizes disruptions in our processes. This scheme ensures continuity and stability in our work. Each installment allows us to plan better, invest wisely, and avoid last-minute financial stress.”
He added, “This government is achieving what no previous administration has done for farmers. This scheme may seem minor to some, but for us, it represents substantial support.”
Earlier that day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various development projects valued at approximately Rs 2,200 crore in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.
In a significant advancement for his parliamentary constituency, PM Modi also released the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme.
Under this installment, Rs 21,000 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the nation. He also distributed more than 7,400 assistive aids to 'divyangjan' and elderly beneficiaries.
