RG Kar Incident: Parents Launch Social Media Campaign for Justice

Kolkata, Dec 5 (NationPress) The parents of the junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, who was brutally raped and subsequently murdered within the hospital grounds in August of this year, have opened a Facebook account to advocate for justice for their daughter.

Under the title ‘Truth and Justice: Voice for RG KAR Victim’, the victim’s parents shared both a written and video message, appealing to the broader community for support in their quest for justice.

Justice for Our Daughter. We are determined, but we can’t do this without your help. Your voice, support, and love are crucial. Let’s come together to shed light on this injustice and demand what is right. Together, we can foster hope and accountability. Please stand with us. Share, speak, and support. #JusticeForOurDaughter #justiceforRGKar,” read their written message.

In the video, where the parents appeared with obscured faces, they expressed their frustration, stating that nearly four months have elapsed since the incident, yet they remain in the dark regarding the specifics of what transpired that night.

“Initially, the Kolkata Police conducted the investigation, but we felt it was not progressing adequately. Therefore, we approached the Calcutta High Court to request a transfer of the investigation to a more competent agency. Subsequently, the investigation was assigned to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Almost four months have passed since then, and we see no substantial progress in the case. We are still waiting for justice for our daughter. Thus, we appeal to the citizens of India to join us in demanding justice,” they stated in the video.

The lifeless body of the victim was discovered in the seminar hall of the R.G. Kar premises on the morning of August 9. The initial investigation by the Kolkata Police led to the arrest of civic volunteer Sanjay Roy.

Following this, the CBI took over the case and has recently submitted its first chargesheet, identifying the civic volunteer as the “sole prime accused” in the crime of rape and murder.

Furthermore, the CBI is also investigating the former and controversial principal of R.G. Kar, Sandip Ghosh, and the former SHO of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal, on allegations of obstructing the investigation and tampering with evidence during the initial inquiry conducted by the Kolkata Police.

The trial is currently progressing on a fast-track basis at a special court in Kolkata.
