New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) Defending titleholders Lakshay Sheoran from Haryana and Bhavya Tripathi from Delhi have successfully reached the finals in the men’s and women’s trap shooting events of the ongoing 67th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) for Shotgun disciplines, taking place at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range nearby on Wednesday.

While Lakshay dominated the 92-participant men’s qualification round, local star Bhavya secured the fifth position in the women’s qualifier.

The top six qualifiers will compete in the men’s final on Thursday, followed by the women’s final on the same day. The finals for junior men and women will follow these senior events.

Former Asian Games silver medallist Lakshay started strong with a score of 73 after the first three rounds of 25 shots each. He concluded the day by winning an 8-7 shoot-off against Olympian and senior competitor Prithviraj Tondaiman, which determined their respective bib numbers for the final.

Prithviraj achieved two perfect rounds of 25, resulting in a tie with Lakshay at 121 hits each, after Lakshay missed two targets in his final round. The final will also see veteran Zoravar Singh Sandhu, participating in his third consecutive trap final at the nationals.

Also qualifying was Shardul Vihan, another former Asian Games silver medallist who previously won a senior national title in Double Trap at just 14 years old. He has also qualified for the junior final.

In the women's division, Olympian Rajeshwari Kumari from Punjab topped the qualifications with a score of 114 (24,23,25,22,20) to make the final alongside Bhavya (110). Additionally, two more women, including Sabeera Haris from Uttar Pradesh and Shreshtha Sisodiya from Madhya Pradesh, qualified for both the women’s and junior women’s finals.

The National Shooting Championships are being conducted in various categories at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range and the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Association Ranges in Bhopal.
