Key Takeaways
Chennai, Dec 21 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered a fierce critique of the Union government on Sunday for delaying the Adichanallur archaeological museum project. He called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to visit the Keeladi and Porunai museums to appreciate the depth and heritage of Tamil civilization.
Speaking at a public event in Tirunelveli, Stalin expressed his pride in being Tamil, stating that the recent inauguration of the Porunai Archaeological Museum at Reddiarpatti marked a significant achievement in showcasing ancient Tamil culture globally.
He criticized the BJP-led Centre’s neglect of the Adichanallur project, which starkly contrasts with Tamil Nadu’s commitment to preserving its heritage.
The Chief Minister further condemned the Union government for what he termed a “systematic dismantling” of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
He claimed that the scheme, crucial for rural households, was being jeopardized by slashing central funding and shifting the financial burden to states.
“From receiving full central funding, Tamil Nadu is now expected to cover 40% of the costs. This represents a historic mistake,” he declared, announcing that the DMK would initiate statewide demonstrations against this decision on December 24.
Addressing AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Stalin questioned why the opposition leader remained silent on this critical issue.
“He brands himself a true farmer, yet he aligns with the NDA and disregards the plight of farmers impacted by this decision,” he stated.
Stalin highlighted the accomplishments of the DMK government, mentioning welfare initiatives like the Rs 1,000 monthly support for women heads of households and the complimentary bus travel program, which have greatly enhanced living conditions in Tamil Nadu.
In Tirunelveli alone, 1.83 lakh women have benefited from the free bus travel initiative since its inception in 2021, he remarked.
Despite the political challenges posed by the Centre, Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu continues to thrive and serves as a model for other states.
The DMK leader expressed confidence that his party-led coalition would achieve success in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Earlier that day, Stalin inaugurated 33 development projects worth Rs 235.95 crore and laid the foundation for 11 projects totaling Rs 356.59 crore. He also distributed welfare aid of Rs 101.49 crore to 45,477 beneficiaries and launched 15 new bus services.
Attendees included Speaker M. Appavu, Ministers K.N. Nehru, Thangam Thennarasu, and E.V. Velu, along with Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab and District Collector R. Sukumar.
