Hyderabad, Oct 31 (NationPress) Veteran Congress MLA and former minister P. Sudarshan Reddy has been designated as an advisor to the Telangana government, holding the rank of a Cabinet minister, as of Friday.
In another development, Congress MLA K. Prem Sagar Rao has been appointed as the chairman of the Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation, also receiving Cabinet rank.
These appointments coincided with the swearing-in of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin as a minister.
The decisions were interpreted as a strategic move by the Congress government to address the aspirations of senior leaders seeking Cabinet positions.
P. Sudarshan Reddy, who previously served as a minister in the united state of Andhra Pradesh, will oversee the implementation of key welfare and developmental schemes with the authority of a Cabinet minister.
As per the Government Order, he is tasked with reviewing the execution of flagship welfare programs in coordination with district Collectors, department Secretaries, and other relevant officials.
The advisor's remuneration and support staff will be equivalent to those of a Cabinet Minister, and he will receive residential accommodation and a minister's office at the Secretariat.
He will also be a special invitee to all Cabinet meetings. A high-ranking officer, designated as a special chief secretary, principal secretary, or secretary, will lead the unit that oversees welfare and developmental schemes, providing necessary support to the advisor. This unit will periodically inform the Cabinet about the progress of various programs.
Both Sudarshan Reddy and Prem Sagar Rao, along with two other MLAs, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy and Malreddy Ranga Reddy, expressed dissatisfaction at being overlooked during the previous Cabinet expansion in June 2025.
The recent expansion was primarily to accommodate Azharuddin, who is not a member of either the Assembly or the Council.
In August, the State Cabinet decided to nominate Azharuddin as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) under the Governor's quota.
The Cabinet was officially formed on December 7, 2023, with the swearing-in of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and 11 ministers.
Following a prolonged delay, the Cabinet saw an expansion on June 8 with the addition of three more ministers.
With Azharuddin's recent swearing-in, the Cabinet now comprises 16 members, leaving two positions vacant, as the maximum capacity is 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister.
