Hyderabad, Jan 18 (NationPress) The Telangana Cabinet convened on Sunday and approved the conduct of municipal elections in the state.
During the meeting led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at Medaram in Mulugu district, the Cabinet reached a unanimous decision to hold elections for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations whose terms have expired as soon as possible.
The elections will encompass 2,996 wards and divisions. Just two days prior, reservations for various categories were finalized.
This meeting marked the first time in history that a Cabinet assembly was held outside Hyderabad, taking place at Medaram, in anticipation of the Medaram Jatara, a grand tribal festival.
Minister for Information and Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka and Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, addressed the media regarding the Cabinet's decisions.
He mentioned that the Cabinet deliberated on various matters and approved the allotment of lands for both Central and State government institutions at 14 locations.
The Cabinet also discussed the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu, scheduled for July 27 to August 3, 2027, and resolved to undertake permanent development works for the event.
Plans were made to enhance the temple circuit from Basar to Bhadrachalam, with a consultancy expected to submit its report by February 15.
Furthermore, the Cabinet allocated Rs. 2,787 crore for Hyderabad Metro Phase-II A and B, while also addressing matters related to Phase-I.
The state government has previously committed to taking over Phase-I from L&T.
After the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister participated in a cultural event at Medaram, announcing that the state government will treat the Medaram Jatara akin to the Kumbh Mela.
He emphasized that he had completed the development of Medaram Gaddelu and the tribal shrine, outfitted with all necessary facilities, which will be inaugurated on Monday.
The Chief Minister characterized the Medaram festival as a significant event that embodies courage transformed into divinity, being the largest tribal festival where devotees honor deities without a temple.
CM Revanth Reddy also honored the valiant women Sammakka and Saralamma, who spearheaded a revolt against the Kakatiya dynasty. He reflected on his 'Padayatra' from Medaram on February 6, 2023, with a determination to displace the BRS government. Thanks to the blessings of the goddesses, the ‘People's Government’ has now taken charge in the State.
"I view it as a blessing to develop Medaram," the Chief Minister stated, noting that the construction and renovation projects were finalized within 100 days prior to the commencement of the tribal festival.
