Mumbai, March 20 (NationPress) In the midst of the escalating controversy surrounding Disha Salian's death, Aaditya Thackeray, a leader of Shiv Sena-UBT and former Minister of Maharashtra, stated on Thursday that there have been persistent efforts to defame him for the past five years.
He asserted that the issue has been deliberately brought up to draw attention away from pressing matters, especially after the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) remarked that the Aurangzeb tomb is not a relevant topic.
Thackeray's comments came in response to a petition filed by Disha Salian's father on Wednesday, demanding a CBI investigation, claiming that his daughter was raped and murdered, with Thackeray named in the petition.
"There has been a continuous attempt to defame me for five years. The crucial point is that I have repeatedly mentioned this, as you may have seen in my tweets. We (the Opposition) united to expose this government. Not just us, but the RSS has also shed light on this. Just yesterday, members of the RSS stated that bringing up the Aurangzeb issue is inappropriate. So now, will the BJP ministers demand action against them?" Thackeray questioned.
"What direction is Maharashtra heading in terms of crime? Issues such as women's safety, farmer suicides, and overall distress are worsening in the state," he added.
Aaditya Thackeray accused the MahaYuti alliance of ignoring any of the issues outlined in their 10-point manifesto during the state Budget.
"We have brought the government's failures to light, including the Aurangzeb matter. One Minister had to resign (referring to Dhananjay Munde's resignation related to the Beed Sarpanch murder)," he mentioned.
Previously, MahaYuti legislators raised the Disha Salian death issue in the Assembly, calling for Aaditya Thackeray's arrest and questioning, especially after the petition from Disha Salian's father.
BJP legislator Amit Shah brought up the subject, joined by Shiv Sena legislator Arjun Khotkar, BJP Minister Nitesh Rane, and Shiv Sena Minister Shabhuraj Desai.
BJP MLA Ameet Satam remarked that Disha Salian's death occurred under suspicious circumstances.
"Initially, the police ruled it a suicide, and no further inquiries were made. Later, the government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in December 2022 to investigate the case. There is widespread confusion and suspicion regarding this issue, both nationally and internationally. Were there any parties held before her demise? Who attended? What truly caused her death? Was it murder? Various speculations are surfacing through media and social networks about the circumstances of her death. Despite two years, the SIT has not reached any conclusions," MLA Satam added.
The Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, informed the Assembly that the SIT's investigation into Disha Salian's death is still active, with the report not yet submitted.
Union Minister Kadam confirmed that the SIT investigation would be expedited and that no one would evade accountability.
"It’s true that the SIT report has not been submitted yet, but the investigation is ongoing. It will be fast-tracked. Initially, it was labeled a suicide. Now, with the father of the victim taking legal action, the state government is also involved. We will comply with the court's directives. The law applies equally to all, and no one will escape justice," the Union Minister added.
Amidst the uproar, members of the Treasury bench moved to the well of the House demanding Aaditya Thackeray's arrest and questioning regarding the Disha Salian death case. Following this, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar adjourned the House for 10 minutes.
