Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) A tragic accident claimed the life of a six-year-old boy and left five others, including two women, injured when a speeding vehicle, operated by a Class 12 student, crashed into pedestrians in Lucknow, causing widespread shock and anger in the community.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening on Kanpur Road, just in front of the Hanuman temple at Banthra. According to police reports, five individuals sustained serious injuries in the accident, and the child later passed away during medical treatment.
The injured individuals include Arman (12), Awadh Bihari (42), Sadhana Verma (35), Meena Devi (60), and Dikshant Patel (6), the latter being the deceased child.
Six-year-old Dikshant Patel succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. The driver, identified as Gaurav, a resident of Sohramau in the Ballukheda area of Unnao, has since been arrested. Authorities confirmed that he is an adult under police definitions.
The vehicle involved was a Swift car registered in Kanpur. Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash occurred as the driver was returning from a farewell party.
Reports suggest that the driver fled the scene immediately following the collision, allegedly dropping off a female passenger at an undisclosed location before disappearing.
Awadh Bihari, an auto driver and one of the injured, described the horrifying moments of the incident, stating he suffered severe head injuries from the impact. He mentioned that doctors had recommended a CT scan.
Nitin, Awadh Bihari's son, noted that the police were alerted about the accident around 6 p.m.
Dr. Meera Arya explained that the accident occurred near the hospital, stating, “Five individuals arrived in a critical condition. The child was in dire straits and was immediately referred to the medical emergency unit, while the others were admitted for treatment.”
This incident has drawn unsettling parallels to the recent Lamborghini crash in Kanpur, where the accused, Shivam Mishra, was granted bail shortly after his arrest. Such cases have reignited discussions regarding road safety enforcement in Uttar Pradesh.
