Prayagraj, Sep 19 (NationPress) In a significant development for Umar Ansari, the son of the deceased mafia figure Mukhtar Ansari, the Allahabad High Court granted him bail on Friday in a case lodged under the Gangsters Act.
Umar was taken into custody on August 3 and has remained in judicial detention since then.
The allegations against him involve the forgery of documents aimed at reclaiming a property that had been seized under the Gangsters Act.
Authorities assert that he attempted to liberate the confiscated land by creating fraudulent documents that bore the forged signature of his mother, Afshan Ansari.
Justice Dr. Gautam Chaudhary’s bench issued the bail ruling following extensive discussions between Umar’s lawyer and the state’s legal representative.
Previously, on August 21, Umar’s bail request was denied by the Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court in Ghazipur, prompting him to approach the High Court.
The police reported that the case was initiated at the Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur after the station head filed an FIR accusing Umar of employing forged documents to request the release of the contested property.
This property is situated in Vallabh Devdhi Das Mohalla within the Sadar Kotwali region and has been seized by the District Magistrate under the Gangsters Act.
Following his arrest in Lucknow on August 3, Umar was transferred from the Ghazipur jail to Pachlana Jail in Kasganj on August 23.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the signatures on the documents did not correspond with Afshan Ansari’s authentic handwriting, suggesting forgery. A power of attorney was allegedly submitted with forged signatures as well.
Meanwhile, Afshan Ansari remains at large in this case, with police offering a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to her capture.
The High Court’s ruling now facilitates Umar Ansari’s release from custody, although proceedings in the matter will persist.
