New Delhi, Oct 26 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, the Delhi Police have successfully solved the heinous murder of a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant, whose charred remains were discovered in a flat in Gandhi Vihar earlier this month. Authorities reported that three individuals, including a 21-year-old forensic science student, have been detained for allegedly strangling the victim, igniting his body, and fabricating the scene to resemble an accidental fire to eliminate evidence.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Amrita Chauhan (21), Sumit Kashyap (27), and Sandeep Kumar (29), all hailing from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. According to investigators, they reportedly murdered the victim, Ram Kesh Meena, and subsequently doused the body with oil, ghee, and alcohol before opening an LPG cylinder regulator to create a fire and mislead the authorities.

“This was a methodical and shocking murder. The suspects tried to disguise it as a fire accident, but our team uncovered the plot through technical surveillance, CCTV footage, and extensive fieldwork,” stated a senior police officer.

The incident came to light on October 6 when the police received a distress call regarding a fire at a residence in Gandhi Vihar.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, and a police team, along with FSL experts, discovered a heavily charred body inside the apartment. The deceased was quickly identified as Meena, a UPSC aspirant who resided there.

Initially, an FIR was lodged under fire-related laws. However, suspicion arose after CCTV footage showed two masked men entering the building, followed by a woman and another man exiting around 2:57 a.m., shortly before the fire erupted.

Investigators reviewed technical data and located Amrita Chauhan's mobile near the crime scene at the time of the incident. “Her presence at that hour, alongside the CCTV evidence, made her a key suspect. We escalated technical surveillance and tracked her down to Moradabad,” an official remarked.

Police carried out multiple raids, ultimately apprehending Amrita on October 18. During intense questioning, she reportedly confessed, implicating her ex-boyfriend Sumit Kashyap and his associate Sandeep Kumar as co-conspirators.

At her direction, authorities recovered a hard disk, a trolley bag, and the victim’s shirt. Sumit was captured on October 21, followed by Sandeep on October 23. Two mobile phones were also confiscated.

Authorities stated that Amrita and the victim were in a relationship and living together. She later discovered that Meena had allegedly recorded inappropriate videos and stored them on a hard disk, ignoring her repeated pleas to erase them.

“She expressed feelings of being trapped and humiliated. Consequently, she involved her ex-boyfriend, who was filled with rage and sought revenge,” an investigator explained.

Police indicated that Amrita—being a forensic science student and a fan of crime-themed web series—allegedly devised the execution method to mimic an accidental gas-cylinder fire.

Sumit, who works as an LPG cylinder distributor, is accused of opening the cylinder regulator and using a lighter to ignite the fire. After staging the scene, the suspects allegedly fled with the hard disk, laptops, and the deceased's possessions, locking the iron gate from the outside after removing its netting to create a tamper-proof appearance.

“The way they tried to mislead the investigation was troubling. However, the timeline, technical data, and local intelligence revealed the truth. It was only a matter of time before we unraveled the conspiracy,” a senior police officer stated.

Authorities mentioned that further investigations are ongoing, and additional digital evidence is being scrutinized.

“All three suspects remain in custody. We have retrieved the hard disk, materials from the crime scene, and digital devices. The case is progressing with robust technical and forensic support,” stated North District DCP Raja Banthia.
