Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress): BJP MP Ravi Kishan expressed his strong support for the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha on Friday, emphasizing that the pivotal role of women voters in elections should lead to increased political representation.
During the debate, Kishan characterized the day as "historic," asserting that the legislation embodies the vision of a "New India" under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"This is a golden day. This Bill showcases the power of determination, demonstrating that even the seemingly impossible can be achieved. This transcends mere electoral politics," he stated.
Reflecting on the impact of women in elections, the BJP MP shared his personal experience, noting that a significant portion of his electoral success is attributed to women voters.
"I garner lakhs of votes, and approximately one to one-and-a-half lakh of those are mobilized by my wife," Kishan pointed out, highlighting the essential contribution of women in influencing electoral results.
He emphasized that if women are vital to electoral successes, they deserve adequate representation in legislative assemblies.
"Women should receive a 33 percent reservation. They need to step forward, and delimitation must occur for effective implementation," he added.
Kishan also recounted his struggles with poverty, underscoring the necessity of addressing women's issues at the grassroots level.
"I want to share my journey of hardship. My home lacked a toilet. I understand the distress of women who had to wait for nightfall to relieve themselves," he recounted.
He criticized parts of the Opposition, asserting that the focus should be on resolving women's issues rather than engaging in political banter.
"This is not the time for songs but for acknowledging the struggles of women," he expressed, voicing his discontent over remarks aimed at Prime Minister Modi during the discussion surrounding the Women's Reservation Bill.
Kishan accused the Opposition of politicizing the matter and failing to empower women throughout history.
He reaffirmed that the current Union government is committed to women's rights via legislative measures.
