Amaravati, June 4 (NationPress) - The opposition YSR Congress Party marked ‘Betrayal Day’ across Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, accusing the TDP-led NDA of failing to honor its election commitments.
Leaders and supporters of YSRCP rallied in every district to protest against what they termed the coalition government's betrayal of public trust.
With banners and placards, they organized rallies and engaged in various forms of protest. They also submitted representations to officials, urging the government to deliver on its promises.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against Chandrababu Naidu, asserting that the coalition has not fulfilled the commitments made during last year’s elections. Some protestors were detained by police at various locations.
YSRCP leaders pointed out that the alliance made a total of 143 promises but has yet to deliver on even the ‘Super Six’ pledges.
Former chief minister and YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy took to ‘X’, stating that exactly a year ago, Naidu assumed office with grand promises, none of which have materialized.
“Instead, he has betrayed the very electorate that placed their trust in him. His misleading statements and broken promises have left the state in a state of disillusionment. Today we declare it as Betrayal Day! Citizens from all backgrounds have come out in significant numbers to express their outrage. This protest sends a clear message that the people of Andhra Pradesh will not tolerate deceit,” Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed.
“The overwhelming participation in this statewide event demonstrates the profound disappointment and resistance of the betrayed populace. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every YSRCP leader, worker, and citizen who stood united today to voice this truth alongside those in need. Our struggle for justice, dignity, and people’s rights will only intensify,” continued the YSRCP chief.
YSRCP state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy declared that the resounding success of ‘Betrayal Day’ signifies the public's anger towards the coalition government's unfulfilled election promises. He noted that anti-incumbency sentiments have emerged much earlier than expected.
Despite police restrictions, the event was remarkably successful, with citizens expressing their discontent unanimously over Naidu's unfulfilled promises, contrasting it with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure, where nearly 99 percent of promises were kept.
The public feels deceived as existing schemes were halted and new promises were never realized, which is evident in the success of ‘Betrayal Day’. Reddy remarked that even in opposition, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was always present with the people, unlike Naidu, who had distanced himself from the public and the state during his term from 2019 to 2024.
