Key Takeaways
Washington, Feb 14 (NationPress) Referring to the forthcoming India AI Impact Summit as a crucial and significant gathering, Dell Technologies' senior official Vivek Mohindra emphasized that this event signifies a critical juncture for India and the wider Global South as artificial intelligence transforms economies and governance.
“This is the inaugural global AI summit to occur in the Global South,” Mohindra shared during an exclusive conversation with IAND.
He noted that India, with its ambitious goals, is bringing together international leaders at a crucial moment to discuss not only its own aspirations but also “the roles we can all play in helping India achieve its goals.”
Mohindra, who serves as Special Advisor to the Vice Chair and COO at Dell Technologies and has held various significant positions, expressed his anticipation for “a wealth of constructive dialogue” at the summit, highlighting that “a collaboration between public and private sectors will be vital.”
In terms of India's standing in the global AI arena, he stated that the nation is “extremely well-equipped” due to its extensive talent reservoir and a longstanding reputation in IT services and software.
With a growing emphasis on establishing AI infrastructure and policy frameworks, he expressed enthusiasm for India's potential to capitalize on this opportunity and position itself as a leading driver of AI, benefiting not just its citizens but the world at large.
When discussing comparisons with other global powers, Mohindra advised against viewing AI as a zero-sum game. “This is a more significant conversation than merely comparing one country's position relative to another,” he stated.
He highlighted India’s long-term development strategies, capital investments in infrastructure, accessibility for citizens and small enterprises, and governance policies as critical components for India to unlock AI's potential.
Regarding corporate collaboration, Mohindra mentioned that public-private partnerships will propel development as India establishes “its own sovereign AI infrastructure.”
Mohindra pointed out Dell’s longstanding presence in India, stating that the company has been operational for “over three decades,” with India now being its “second-largest presence” worldwide in terms of workforce and research and development.
At the summit, Dell intends to present its “Dell AI India blueprint.” Mohindra outlined three core elements: “invest, innovate, and evolve.”
“Investments focus on aspects such as infrastructure, ensuring a secure and sustainable energy system to support AI development,” he noted, referencing initiatives like the “Dell AI factory.”
“Innovate centers on aspects like skill development and governance,” he continued, while “evolve pertains to regulatory frameworks.”
On regulatory matters, Mohindra called for a balanced and predictable approach. Companies require “some level of certainty regarding regulation to foster continued innovation,” he expressed, advocating for “a harmonized regulatory framework that offers both small and large companies the clarity to operate within that environment.”
He referred to India's AI governance guidelines unveiled in November 2025, stating that the framework encompasses “seven foundational principles,” including “trust, people-first, fairness, equity, and accountability,” while also prioritizing “innovation over restriction.”
“I believe the government's current approach is quite balanced,” he remarked. Addressing industry-wide challenges, Mohindra identified three persistent issues: pinpointing the appropriate AI use cases, preparing data for AI, and closing the “skills and talent gap.”
Businesses must also determine whether AI workloads will be handled “in the cloud,” “on-premises,” or “on a PC,” each with its own advantages and disadvantages regarding cost and data control. He added that organizations face “the rapid pace of change in this sector and the necessity to keep pace without getting hindered by the speed of change.”
Mohindra conveyed his excitement about India's potential to harness this technology for the benefit of its citizens, stating that Dell is “eager to leverage all our capabilities to assist India in fulfilling its AI aspirations.”
The India AI Impact Summit follows previous global AI summits conducted in London, South Korea, and France, as nations strive to formulate policy and governance strategies amid swift advancements in generative AI and computing infrastructure.
