Is the India–US Trade Agreement a Game Changer for India’s Growth?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) The recently finalized India–US trade agreement is perceived as a substantial enhancement for India across various sectors, with experts on Tuesday labeling it as a critical milestone in the nation’s developmental trajectory.
Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, former chief of BrahMos Aerospace and a prominent scientist, stated that India is progressively advancing towards establishing itself as a significant defence and economic force.
This advancement, he noted, results from India’s homegrown hypersonic technology and the swift growth of its space industry.
During a media interaction in Coimbatore, Dr. Pillai mentioned that India is now moving beyond traditional missile systems and is developing an upgraded iteration of BrahMos, often described as “Super BrahMos.”
He also highlighted that following the successful delivery of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines, numerous other nations have expressed interest in procuring the system.
The demand has surged further after the missile's successful execution in “Operation Sindhura.”
On the economic side, Dr. Pillai remarked that India is currently the world’s fourth-largest economy and is poised to overtake Germany, becoming the third largest.
Discussing the Gaganyaan mission, he stated that India plans to first execute unmanned missions, including one with a humanoid robot, to evaluate safety and re-entry mechanisms before sending trained astronauts into space.
He also pointed to the burgeoning private space sector in India, noting that around 400 space startups, such as Agnikul and Skyroot, are now operational in the country.
These startups, he emphasized, are not rivals to ISRO but collaborators aiding in addressing the growing demand for satellites and launch vehicles.
Dr. Pillai reminisced about his 40-year association with former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, affirming that India continues to advance towards the vision he had for a developed nation.
In parallel, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Director General Chandrajit Banerjee also expressed approval of the India–US trade pact.
He noted that the agreement would yield benefits for individuals, businesses, and job creation in both nations.
Commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic strategies, Banerjee asserted that India’s policy framework has become a global benchmark.
He concluded by stating that the confidence demonstrated by the US President in India would further solidify bilateral relations.
