The Digital India Initiative is Paving the Way for 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047: Union Minister

New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) The Digital India initiative has set the stage for a knowledge-oriented economy and a digitally-empowered community, striving towards the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, stated Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, during a press briefing on ‘Digital Infrastructure and Connectivity’ in the national capital.

In the last 11 years, the government has initiated a digital revolution, encouraging citizens to embrace digital methods, which has significantly affected the lives of 1.4 billion individuals, the minister mentioned.

“With Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm, the world is now acknowledging India’s digital revolution. Innovations like UPI, DigiYatra, and DigiLocker are revolutionizing daily life and simplifying routine tasks,” he remarked.

The minister further noted that UPI has expanded its reach to seven nations, including France, showcasing India's success in digital payments on an international level.

At present, UPI is operational in seven countries: UAE, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, and Mauritius. The introduction of UPI in France is particularly noteworthy as it represents the first deployment of UPI in Europe.

This growth enables Indian consumers and businesses to conduct transactions and receive money effortlessly while overseas. Various nations have entered into Memorandums of Understanding to adopt India’s Digital Payment Infrastructure (DPI), further solidifying India’s stature in the global digital landscape.

The advancement of digital services has also played a crucial role in mitigating corruption. The digital revolution has facilitated direct fund transfers to beneficiaries, eliminating the need for intermediaries.

“Now, even villages have internet access, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has optimized its processes through digital platforms. The Parivesh portal has expedited environmental clearances, rendering them quicker, simpler, and more transparent compared to previous lengthy procedures,” the minister explained.

Initiated on July 1, 2015, the ‘Digital India’ program aims to transform India into a knowledge-based economy and a digitally empowered society by ensuring the availability of digital services, enhancing accessibility, promoting inclusion, and fostering empowerment.
