Chennai, Feb 17 (NationPress) The creative team behind director Karthik Subbaraj’s highly anticipated action film ‘Retro’, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, has revealed how the cinematographer Shreyas ingeniously tackled a lighting issue that arose during a twilight scene shoot.
The production team, known for sharing behind-the-scenes moments through comic strips, recently dropped the second installment titled, “002 - AGAL VILLAKKUM ARPUTHAMUM (Oil lamps and a miracle!)”.
Stone Bench Productions, the studio behind the film, posted the comic on its social media, stating, “Initially, the plan was straightforward – upon arriving in Varanasi, film two scenes, including one featuring the lead actors at twilight, and conclude the day. However, things didn't go as planned.”
They elaborated that the first scene took longer than expected and by the time Suriya arrived, the schedule was off track.
“Our cinematographer, Shreyas, noted that we hadn’t brought additional lighting for what was planned as a daytime shoot. Yet, he proposed a brilliant workaround by utilizing 100-200 oil lamps (Agal Villakus) to create a temporary lighting setup,” the production team explained.
“When Suriya arrived, calm and composed, he reviewed the dialogue, embraced his character, and completed the scene in one take. Pooja ma’am’s emotional delivery added significant depth, making it a captivating watch,” the production team concluded.
Alongside Suriya and Pooja Hegde, the film, set to premiere on May 1, will also feature an ensemble cast including Malayalam stars Joju George and Jayaram, along with Tamil actor Karunakaran.
The cinematography is by Shreyaas Krishna, while editing is managed by Shafique Mohamed Ali and art direction by Jacki and Mayapandi. The film promises a high-octane action experience with stunts choreographed by Kecha Khamphakdee.
