Mumbai, Aug 14 (NationPress) The Supreme Court of India has denied the bail request of Kannada actor Darshan, who, along with his partner Pavithra Gowda, is a primary suspect in the fan murder case.
This ruling comes as the Supreme Court overruled a previous decision made by the Karnataka High Court, which had granted bail to Darshan. The Supreme Court's bench, comprising Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan, issued the verdict to revoke the actor's bail.
During the proceedings, the Supreme Court criticized the High Court's bail decision, stating that it seemed to treat the matter as if determining conviction or acquittal.
The Supreme Court further questioned whether such orders are common in other cases and made it clear that they would not “repeat such a mistake.”
In its ruling, the Supreme Court indicated that there appeared to be a prima facie misuse of judicial authority. While an error by a lower court judge may be somewhat tolerated, it is unacceptable for a High Court judge to err in such a manner.
The case involves the tragic death of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old auto driver, whose body was discovered on a flyover in Bengaluru on June 9. A devoted fan of Darshan, it is alleged that he was kidnapped and subsequently murdered at the actor's behest.
Reports suggest that Renukaswamy was killed due to harassment directed towards Darshan's female friend, Pavithra Gowda.
The incident reportedly took place in Pattangere village, Bengaluru, where it is claimed that Renukaswamy was beaten to death, and Darshan was notified of the murder via WhatsApp.
On August 6, both Darshan and Gowda approached the Supreme Court, requesting that their bail not be revoked. They submitted written arguments to support their case.
Darshan, through his legal representative, asserted that there is no evidence connecting him to the crime, while Gowda emphasized her role as a single parent to a daughter in Class 10 and her responsibilities towards her elderly parents.
