New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs throughout the national capital in celebration of Makar Sankranti.
Gupta mentioned to the media that the establishment of these new centers would greatly enhance healthcare accessibility for the residents of Delhi.
“Today, we have inaugurated 81 Arogya Mandirs on Makar Sankranti. Prior to this, there were already 238 operational Arogya Mandirs. These new centers will provide more convenient and accessible healthcare options for the people of Delhi,” she stated.
The Chief Minister clarified that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs operate as primary healthcare facilities, playing a vital role in bolstering the city’s health infrastructure.
“These centers function similarly to primary hospitals. They will alleviate pressure on larger hospitals and address significant health challenges faced by citizens in the national capital. Residents will have access to essential medical services closer to their homes,” she added.
Gupta also revealed that the Delhi government has set an ambitious goal of establishing 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the city and is diligently working towards this target in the upcoming months.
BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay remarked, “The construction of these Arogya Mandirs is impressive, and today, 81 new Arogya Mandirs will be dedicated to Delhi. This is the eighth Arogya Mandir in our Bhim Nagar and Malviya Nagar constituency, with two more to be constructed.”
On Tuesday, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized that this initiative would significantly enhance the availability of preventive healthcare services for residents.
With this expansion, the total number of centers will increase to 319 across the national capital, he stated.
“With this addition, Delhi is steadily progressing towards the establishment of more than 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, as outlined in the national capital's long-term primary healthcare roadmap,” he mentioned.
“Currently, 238 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational. Following today’s inauguration, the total number of functioning centers will rise to 319 across Delhi,” Minister Singh added.
“These centers mark a significant advancement in the Delhi government's mission to deliver free, accessible, and dignified primary healthcare close to every household. This initiative is being executed under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, aligning with the national vision of ‘Healthcare for All’,” the Minister noted.
Additionally, each Ayushman Arogya Mandir will provide free doctor consultations, essential medications, diagnostic tests, and screenings for diabetes, hypertension, cancer, maternal and child healthcare, immunization support, growth monitoring, lifestyle counseling, mental health services, and preventive health programs such as yoga and nutritional guidance.
“These local facilities will significantly ease the burden on larger hospitals, ensuring prompt care for women, seniors, and low-income families without long travel distances or waits,” he elaborated.
“Alongside the expansion of Arogya Mandirs, Delhi is also enhancing coverage under both the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the Ayushman Bharat-Vaya Vandana Yojana (AB-VVY). As of January 13, 2026, a total of 691,530 health cards (combined PM-JAY + VVY) have been issued in Delhi, including 265,895 VVY cards,” Minister Singh explained.
The Health Minister further stated that to guarantee seamless access to secondary and tertiary care, Delhi now has 189 empaneled hospitals, comprised of 138 private hospitals, 41 government-run hospitals, and 10 Central government hospitals.
“These empaneled institutions offer cashless treatment, ensuring that financially disadvantaged families can receive lifesaving care without financial barriers,” he concluded.
