Dhaka, Sep 22 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh has launched a vehement critique against the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, claiming that its leaders and activists, particularly women, have endured profound physical and mental abuse while incarcerated, alongside harassment stemming from a wave of fabricated allegations.

Expressing grave concern, the party asserted that the 'illegal usurper and fascist killer Yunus and his faction spare no effort in executing oppression and persecution' against Awami League leaders and supporters.

The Awami League further accused the regime of filing false and malicious cases against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with party leaders and activists at every level. The party emphasized that many of its members are unjustly imprisoned, with numerous reports of torture leading to fatalities within the prisons, while the inhumane treatment continues unabated.

“Currently, this illegal usurper has implemented new vicious tactics to subject women leaders and activists to extreme, barbaric torture inside the facilities. When they attempt to address issues with the jail authorities, they face physical humiliation, and any protests are met with further disgraceful abuse from guards and fellow inmates,” read a statement from the Awami League.

According to the party, to exacerbate the harassment, its leaders and activists are often falsely arrested in various regions of the country and subsequently moved to different prisons.

Condemning the appalling torture and persecution, the party declared, “These horrifying accounts of mistreatment will shock the conscience of any decent individual, and their collective outrage will rise against these tyrannical, killer-fascist Yunus faction.”

Recently, the Awami League criticized the Yunus-led interim government for the “brutal torture and murder” of party leaders and activists within prisons nationwide.

“Following orders from the illegal and unconstitutional usurper government, prison officials have brutally tortured and murdered numerous Awami League leaders and activists,” the party noted.

Earlier in July, the Awami League urged the interim government to conduct comprehensive, transparent, and independent inquiries into the reported custodial deaths of at least 24 party members since the Yunus-led interim government assumed power in Bangladesh.

The party also called on the global community, human rights organizations, and all justice advocates to support the families of the victims, demanding independent investigations into these custodial deaths occurring across Bangladesh.
