New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) - In a significant diplomatic engagement, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Sadamasa Oue, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, on Friday. The focus of their discussions was to enhance the defence technology cooperation and bolster economic security.
According to a post by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X, "Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri engaged in a fruitful dialogue with Sadamasa Oue regarding the enhancement of the defence technology and economic security facets of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership."
The bilateral relations between India and Japan were elevated to a 'Global Partnership' in 2000, followed by a 'Strategic and Global Partnership' in 2006, and ultimately to a 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' in 2014, as outlined by the MEA. The defence and security partnership is a crucial element of the India-Japan relationship. In recent years, exchanges in the defence sector have intensified, reflecting a shared strategic perspective, particularly on matters concerning peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region.
On February 24, Toshimitsu Motegi, Japan's Foreign Minister, expressed gratitude to External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar for his congratulatory message regarding his reappointment. He emphasized his eagerness to strengthen bilateral relations and work towards realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared Motegi's statement on X, expressing, "I appreciate your congratulatory message on my reappointment. I look forward to continuously collaborating with you, S. Jaishankar, to enhance our bilateral relations and achieve a 'Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)'." This statement was made in response to EAM Jaishankar's message congratulating Motegi on his reappointment.
Earlier, on February 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sanae Takaichi on her success in the Japanese House of Representatives election. Modi expressed confidence that he and Takaichi would further elevate the friendship between India and Japan.
"Congratulations, Sanae Takaichi, on your significant victory in the elections to the House of Representatives! Our Special Strategic and Global Partnership is essential for promoting global peace, stability, and prosperity. I am confident that under your capable leadership, we will continue to advance the India-Japan friendship," PM Modi stated on X.
In her response, Takaichi expressed gratitude to PM Modi and conveyed her eagerness to collaborate on strengthening the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations.
"Thank you very much, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for your warm congratulations on the House of Representatives election. I look forward to working together to reinforce the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between Japan and India and to cooperate in achieving a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)," Takaichi posted on X.
