Indonesia to Construct $1.2 Billion Methanol Facility in East Java

Jakarta, Dec 11 (NationPress) Indonesia is embarking on the construction of a methanol facility valued at 1.2 billion US dollars in Bojonegoro, East Java, as part of the nation's strategy to achieve national energy sovereignty, announced Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia on Wednesday.

The establishment of this methanol facility is vital for bolstering the mandatory biodiesel program, as methanol plays a significant role in the biodiesel production process, stated Bahlil during the National Investment Coordination Meeting in Jakarta.

Bahlil further emphasized that Indonesia requires approximately two million to 2.3 million tonnes of methanol, underscoring the essential nature of the methanol facility's downstream development, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

The ministry has sought assistance from the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory to guarantee a gas supply of 90 MMBtu (million British thermal units) for the methanol facility.
