Amman, Dec 15 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with an enthusiastic reception from the Indian community in Jordan's capital, Amman, on Monday. As he arrived at his hotel, supporters waved Indian flags and chanted "Modi Modi" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" in a spirited welcome.

During the event, PM Modi took the time to interact with the children present, who were there to show their support. He also enjoyed a cultural performance upon his arrival in Amman.

Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi remarked, "Deeply touched by the warm welcome from the Indian community in Amman. Their affection and pride in India's growth, along with the strong cultural ties, illustrate the lasting connection between India and its diaspora. I also appreciate the significant role the diaspora plays in fortifying India-Jordan relations," he shared on X.

He expressed optimism that his trip to Jordan would enhance the bilateral ties between the two nations. Upon commencing his two-day visit, PM Modi thanked his Jordanian counterpart Jafar Hassan for the warm reception at the airport.

"Landed in Amman. I extend my gratitude to Mr. Jafar Hassan, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, for the warm welcome at the airport. I am confident this visit will strengthen our bilateral relations," PM Modi noted on X.

In a notable gesture, Jordanian PM Jafar Hassan personally welcomed PM Modi at the airport during his two-day visit, invited by King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. This comprehensive bilateral visit is notable as it occurs after a span of 37 years.

Throughout the visit, PM Modi is scheduled to confer with Jordan's King, where both leaders are anticipated to discuss the broad spectrum of relations between India and Jordan, along with sharing views on regional matters.

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, this visit offers a chance to deepen India-Jordan cooperation, explore new collaborative avenues for mutual advancement, and reaffirm commitments to regional peace, stability, prosperity, and security.

"This historic visit commemorates 75 years of diplomatic ties between our nations. During my trip, I will engage in thorough discussions with His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, H.E. Mr. Jafar Hassan, Prime Minister of Jordan, and I look forward to interacting with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. I will also meet the dynamic Indian community that has significantly contributed to India–Jordan relations," PM Modi stated prior to his departure.

This marks PM Modi's first comprehensive bilateral visit to Jordan; previously, he had only transited through the country in February 2018 while en route to the State of Palestine.

"Despite being a transit visit, His Majesty the King extended exceptional courtesies, making it more than just a brief stop. This current full bilateral visit is significant as it follows a 37-year gap. India and Jordan enjoy a warm relationship based on mutual trust and goodwill, spanning various sectors including political, economic, defense, and robust people-to-people connections," said Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.

"Our bilateral relations are characterized by strong leadership-level understanding. Since His Majesty's last visit in 2018, both leaders have convened four times, the most recent being at the G7 Summit in Italy in June 2024. They maintain contact through telephone, and both spoke recently in April 2025 after the tragic Pahalgam terror attacks. His Majesty condemned these acts of terror, affirming that terrorism must be rejected in all its forms and expressed his support for India's fight against it; both nations have collaborated in counter-terrorism efforts, including India's engagement in initiatives launched by His Majesty such as the Aqaba process," she added.
