Tragic Road Incidents Claim 44 Lives and Injure 76 in Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 19 (NationPress) At least 44 individuals have been reported dead and 76 others injured in two distinct road accidents that occurred in eastern Afghanistan's Ghazni province on Wednesday night, according to a local official who provided updates on Thursday.

The accidents transpired on the outskirts of Ghazni city and in the Andar district of the province, along the highway connecting the capital, Kabul, to the southern province of Kandahar, stated Mullah Hamidullah Nesar, the provincial director of information and culture.

Nesar informed that all injured individuals have been transported to health facilities for care, although many are reported to be in critical condition.

The frequent road accidents, often attributed to reckless driving on heavily trafficked roads and the absence of traffic signage on degraded highways, are among the primary causes of fatalities in this war-torn nation, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Earlier this week, a family vehicle plunged into a ravine in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, according to reports from the provincial department of information and culture.

This accident occurred in the Babaji district when the vehicle lost control and fell into a steep ravine, killing six people, including women and children, at the scene, as per the source.

Last week, another tragic incident claimed the lives of six commuters and injured four others when a jeep fell into a river in northern Badakhshan province.

Earlier this month, in an accident on a highway connecting Jawzjan province to the neighboring Sari Pul province, one person was killed instantly and ten others sustained injuries, reported Xinhua.

In a separate incident, a car veered off the road and overturned in the Shahr-e-Safa district of southern Zabul province along a highway linking Kandahar with the national capital, Kabul, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries.
