US and Iran Engage in Crucial Trilateral Talks Amid Trump's Victory Claims
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, April 12 (NationPress) The United States is currently participating in significant, direct trilateral discussions with Pakistan and Iran in Islamabad, even as President Donald Trump claimed that the nation has achieved a strategic success irrespective of the discussions' outcome.
The session in Islamabad has reportedly lasted for "15 hours and ongoing!" as stated by a senior official from the White House earlier today.
The core US delegation includes Vice President JD Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, alongside Jared Kushner and a larger team of national security and regional specialists.
This extended delegation features Dr. Andrew Baker, Deputy National Security Advisor to the President and National Security Advisor to the Vice President, along with Michael Vance, Special Advisor to the Vice President for Asian Affairs. Additional experts are also providing support from Washington.
During a press briefing at the White House, Trump provided a candid evaluation of the negotiations and the larger strategic context.
"No matter what unfolds, we emerge victorious. We have effectively overcome that nation. So, we shall see if they agree to terms or not. From America's perspective, we win," he stated.
The president connected the negotiations to broader economic and energy trends, noting a surge in tanker operations.
"One thing happening is that large, impressive tankers are arriving and departing from our shores, and we are filling them with oil, gas, and more. It’s truly a remarkable sight," he remarked.
Trump characterized the discussions as part of a broader strategic framework that encompasses both military and diplomatic strategies.
"We are deeply involved in negotiations with Iran. Regardless of the outcome, we have triumphed militarily," he said.
The president asserted that Iran's military capabilities have suffered extensive damage, claiming that its naval and aerial resources have been neutralized.
"We have defeated their navy, their air force, and their anti-aircraft systems. We have neutralized their radar capabilities," Trump stated, adding that "their leaders are mostly gone."
He also highlighted ongoing initiatives to secure maritime routes, mentioning that US forces are actively working to eliminate potential threats.
"We have mine sweepers deployed… clearing the strait," he commented.
Despite the assertive rhetoric, Trump conveyed that a negotiated resolution remains uncertain and is not critical from Washington's standpoint.
"Whether we reach an agreement or not is of no concern to me," he concluded.
