Barwani (Madhya Pradesh), Nov 2 (NationPress) - A total of 16 individuals sustained injuries when a private bus transporting passengers from Bhopal to Alirajpur overturned in the vicinity of the Anjad police station area on Sunday, according to officials. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that none of the injuries are life-threatening, which provided some relief amidst the turmoil.
The incident took place around 4:30 a.m. near Talwada Deb on the Barwani-Thikri Highway.
As reported by Barwani's Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dheeraj Babbar, the bus lost control and flipped over when an animal suddenly appeared on the road, prompting the driver to swerve unexpectedly.
"A passenger bus en route from Bhopal encountered an accident near Talwada in the Anjad area and overturned," ASP Babbar stated to IANS.
"Initial findings indicate that the accident was triggered by an animal suddenly crossing the road."
Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the bus, filled with passengers, lost stability on the poorly lit highway. The vehicle skidded before rolling, scattering belongings and passengers along the roadside.
Local residents were among the first responders, rushing to the scene while notifying emergency services. A swift reaction from police and district administration facilitated rapid rescue efforts.
All 16 injured—including men, women, and children—were quickly rescued from the wreckage and taken to nearby hospitals in Anjad and Barwani.
Medical personnel reported injuries ranging from fractures and bruises to minor head trauma, with most victims remaining stable and under observation.
"Both police and administrative teams arrived at the location promptly, ensuring all injured were transported to local hospitals," ASP Babbar added, emphasizing the collaborative response.
The bus, operated by a private company, was on its way to Alirajpur in western Madhya Pradesh, a well-known route for inter-district travel.
Traffic along the highway was obstructed for several hours as cranes worked to right the vehicle and remove debris.
Investigators are currently assessing factors such as road conditions, vehicle maintenance, and potential speeding, in addition to the animal crossing as the primary cause. As inquiries proceed, the district administration has pledged to support affected families, including compensation claims.
