New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu expressed her sorrow on Thursday regarding the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who left us at the age of 92 in AIIMS.

In a message on X, the President stated: "Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji was among those exceptional politicians who adeptly navigated both the realms of academia and administration. His various roles in public service led to significant contributions towards reforming the Indian economy. He will always be remembered for his dedication to the nation, his spotless political career, and his profound humility. His departure is a tremendous loss for all of us. I extend my respectful tributes to one of Bharat's greatest sons and offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and admirers.

The demise of Dr. Singh was confirmed by AIIMS New Delhi.

"With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues and experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26. Immediate resuscitative efforts were initiated at home. He was transported to the medical emergency unit at AIIMS. Despite extensive efforts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m.,” stated the hospital.

Dr. Singh served as the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and was recognized for his transformative influence in guiding India’s economy through a critical period of liberalisation.

He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Funeral arrangements are anticipated to be announced shortly, with participation expected from the nation's leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in honoring his legacy. Dr. Singh's passing signifies the conclusion of an era in Indian politics, and his leadership and legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

In April of this year, Manmohan Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge commending his extensive parliamentary service.

Dr. Singh gained prominence as the Finance Minister during the administration of P.V. Narasimha Rao from 1991 to 1996, implementing sweeping reforms that reshaped the economy.
