Ahmedabad, Sep 15 (NationPress) Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) announced on Monday that it has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) to develop the highly anticipated ropeway project that will connect Sonprayag to Kedarnath with a significant investment of Rs 4,081 crore.
This project marks the company’s inaugural ropeway initiative, with plans to complete it within a six-year timeframe, spearheaded by AEL’s Roads, Metro, Rail, and Water (RMRW) division.
Upon completion, the 12.9 km ropeway will condense the current challenging 9-hour trek into a mere 36 minutes, greatly facilitating and enhancing the safety of the pilgrimage.
The system is designed to accommodate 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction, catering to the needs of lakhs of pilgrims annually. With around 20 lakh devotees visiting Kedarnath each year, the significance of this project cannot be overstated, as highlighted by the flagship incubator of the Adani Portfolio.
This initiative is part of the National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana.
Developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the project will require six years for completion, after which AEL will oversee its operations for 29 years. Beyond improving connectivity, this venture is anticipated to create numerous jobs and stimulate tourism in the area.
“The Kedarnath ropeway transcends mere engineering; it serves as a connection between reverence and contemporary infrastructure,” stated Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group.
“By enhancing the safety, speed, and accessibility of this sacred journey, we pay homage to the faith of millions while generating new opportunities for the people of Uttarakhand through our collaboration with NHLML and the Government of Uttarakhand. This distinguished project epitomizes our dedication to developing infrastructure that not only benefits the nation but also elevates its citizens,” Gautam Adani remarked.
Over the years, Adani Enterprises has concentrated on establishing emerging infrastructure enterprises, contributing to national development, and transitioning them into independent listed entities.
The next phase of its strategic business investments focuses on the green hydrogen ecosystem, airport management, data centers, roadways, and primary industries like copper and petrochemicals—all of which present substantial opportunities for value creation.
