Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury: West Bengal's Political Climate Fosters Illegal Immigration and Terrorism

Kolkata, Dec 21 (NationPress) The present political climate in West Bengal is highly conducive to fostering illegal immigration from Bangladesh along with activities linked to terrorism, asserted veteran Congress leader and five-time MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday.

In light of the recent incidents involving the busting of fake passport rackets and the arrest of members from underground organizations operating within West Bengal, Chowdhury contended that what has been revealed is merely the tip of the iceberg.

"The prevailing political and law & order situation in West Bengal has turned it into a safe haven for fundamentalist groups and their networks. I am concerned about what further discoveries will emerge in the days ahead. The situation is deteriorating daily," the former state party leader informed reporters.

Conversely, in an interview with IANS, ruling Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Union government to take prompt action against anti-India activities emanating from Bangladesh.

"Our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made it clear that issues concerning Bangladesh are international in nature, and any necessary action should be undertaken by the Union government rather than the state government. A long-term risk zone is emerging in Bangladesh, yet the Union government is taking no action to address it," Ghosh stated.

Meanwhile, addressing the recent demolitions of Hindu temples in Bangladesh, Chowdhury expressed concern that if the current caretaker government in Bangladesh permits fundamentalist forces to operate freely, the nation could swiftly descend into a situation akin to Afghanistan.

"Currently, anti-India nations like Pakistan and China are attempting to exploit the crisis in Bangladesh to create further challenges for our country. Bangladesh is evolving into a significant source of turmoil for India," he cautioned.
