Hyderabad, March 15 (NationPress) A parliamentarian from Andhra Pradesh and a former legislator from Telangana have tested positive for drugs following a police operation at a farmhouse in Moinabad, near Hyderabad, on Saturday night, as stated by a senior police official on Sunday.
The MP is affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), while the former MLA represents the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Alongside them, four others also tested positive after blood tests were carried out, according to the police report.
Initially, the MP was cleared in a rapid test conducted right after the raid on Saturday night.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding a drug party, a team from the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), in collaboration with the Special Operations Team (SOT) and local law enforcement, conducted the raid.
EAGLE Superintendent of Police R. Giridhar informed the media that the raiding unit responded swiftly after hearing gunfire from within the premises. The shooter, identified as Nimit Sharma, claimed to be from New Delhi.
As per police reports, the suspect discharged his firearm into the air. Authorities confiscated a revolver and a live cartridge, while another individual present was found with used cartridges.
Police suspect the gunfire was part of a celebration, as guests appeared unaware of the approaching police.
The SP noted that a total of 11 individuals, including a woman, were detained at the drug party. A rapid drug test was administered, revealing that five out of the total tested positive. Following protocol, the detainees were taken to a government hospital to provide blood samples.
Interestingly, one individual who tested negative in the rapid test was later confirmed positive through blood testing. The six individuals will be handed over to the Moinabad police, who will initiate further legal proceedings, with plans to present the accused before a magistrate.
According to police, actions will be pursued against the individuals under the NDPS Act.
The gathering reportedly included politicians, real estate developers, and business owners.
Additionally, authorities seized two grams of white powder from the farmhouse, with samples sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.
Notably, this farmhouse was previously raided by Cyberabad police in October 2022, resulting in the arrest of three individuals for allegedly attempting to bribe MLAs from the then-ruling party, BRS.
