New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annpurna Devi, is set to head discussions focused on establishing safe, dignified, and harassment-free work environments for women across various sectors at a national conference commencing this Saturday, as confirmed by an official announcement.

During the ‘National Conference on Safety of Women at Workplace (SHe-Box)’, organized by the Ministry, Minister Annpurna Devi will introduce a National Workplace Safety Pledge, according to the official statement.

An international roundtable involving UN agencies and multilateral organizations will also take place, showcasing global best practices in workplace safety, and is expected to gather approximately 1,500 participants from over 100 government and private entities.

The Minister emphasized the advantages of the SHe-Box portal, launched in 2024, which allows for online and confidential complaints under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act).

In a social media post, Annpurna Devi expressed, “The SHe-Box provides a secure and confidential outlet for women to file complaints regarding sexual harassment at work with confidence.”

She further stated, “Workplace safety is not merely a privilege; it is the right of every woman. Let’s unite with policymakers, leaders, and change-makers to engage in the National Conference on Safety of Women at Workplace (SHe-Box) and take substantial strides towards fostering a secure and respectful work environment.”

The Ministry indicated that this conference aims to reaffirm the government's dedication to creating safe, dignified, and harassment-free workplaces for all women and to enhance the enforcement of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

The discussions will focus on cultivating a positive workplace culture by raising awareness of POSH rights, improving compliance, promoting the adoption of SHe-Box, and reinforcing India’s leadership in fostering safe and dignified workplaces, as stated in the announcement.

The conference will feature an opening plenary, both national and international roundtables, the unveiling of the SHe-Box logo, a nationwide POSH training video, IEC materials, and access to POSH training available through Karmayogi Bharat for citizens.

Launched on August 29, 2024, the SHe-Box portal is a secure, user-friendly, and multilingual platform designed to ensure strict confidentiality. It facilitates online complaint filing, automatic forwarding to the appropriate Internal or Local Committee, and real-time tracking to enhance transparency and accountability in supporting stakeholders for the effective execution of the POSH Act.

The portal also functions as a resource center, allowing workplaces to upload information related to compliance, including committee details, annual reports, and training initiatives.

Attendees of the conference will include the Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur, senior officials from Central Ministries and Departments as well as States and UTs, chairpersons and members of Internal and Local Committees, nodal officers, representatives from international organizations, industry leaders, and civil society members.
