In a response to a post by the Prime Minister on X, the Chief Minister remarked that this approval marks a significant advancement in the state's development, enhancing regional connectivity and empowering the youth.
He expressed appreciation towards Prime Minister Modi and Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways, for endorsing the corridor.
Previously, the Prime Minister mentioned that the corridor would significantly contribute to the development trajectory of Andhra Pradesh and create numerous opportunities for the youth.
Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan also took to X to extend his thanks to the Prime Minister and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their support in sanctioning the Badvel–Nellore 4-lane highway. He stated, “This crucial project will reduce the travel distance to Krishnapatnam Port by 33.9 km, enhance industrial connectivity, and fortify transportation infrastructure, laying a robust groundwork for SwarnaAndhra 2047 and assisting in the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Your leadership and support are steering Andhra Pradesh toward a more promising, resilient, and self-sufficient future,” noted the leader of the Jana Sena Party.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, presided over by the Prime Minister, has approved the construction of this four-lane Badvel-Nellore Corridor, stretching 108.134 km at an estimated cost of Rs 3653.10 crore along NH 67 under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model.
According to an official statement, the corridor will connect significant nodes in the three Industrial Corridors of Andhra Pradesh, namely the Kopparthy Node on the Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), Orvakal Node on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC), and Krishnapatnam Node on the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). This development is expected to positively influence the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) of the nation.
The Badvel Nellore Corridor commences from Gopavaram Village on the existing National Highway NH-67 in the YSR Kadapa District and concludes at the Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (Chennai-Kolkata) within the SPSR Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh, providing strategic access to the Krishnapatnam Port, which has been identified as a priority node under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
The proposed corridor will shorten the travel distance to Krishanpatnam port by 33.9 km, reducing it from 142 km to 108.13 km compared to the existing Badvel-Nellore road. This improvement will cut down travel time by one hour and ensure a significant reduction in fuel consumption, thereby minimizing the carbon footprint and Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC).
