As AAP and BJP Exchange Accusations Over Voter Registrations, EC to Release Final Delhi Electoral Rolls on January 6

New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) As the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) trade accusations regarding the manipulation of the voters’ list in light of the forthcoming Assembly elections, the Chief Electoral Office (Delhi) is preparing to address this dispute by unveiling the final electoral rolls in early January.
The Electoral Office reported that since November 28 of this year, nearly 4.8 lakh applications for new voter registrations have been submitted, with the final electoral rolls scheduled for publication on January 6, 2025.
The political climate in Delhi has intensified, with AAP and BJP escalating their confrontations.
AAP has alleged that BJP is colluding with EC officials to remove names from the voters’ list in areas where AAP has a strong presence, while BJP contends that AAP has been 'supporting' Rohingyas as a voting bloc by providing them shelter in the city.
By making the facts public, the EC aims to dispel confusion surrounding this ongoing issue and put an end to the exchange of barbs regarding the electoral rolls.
According to a press statement, “The process of updating, including adding, deleting, and modifying entries, is ongoing. Since November 29, 2024, there have been 4,85,624 applications for new registrations (Form 6), 82,450 applications for deletions (Form 7), and 1,71,385 applications for modifications (Form 8) received to date.”
Citizens who have not yet registered to vote can still do so using Form 6.
For changes or deletions in the electoral roll, Forms 8 and 7 should be submitted.
The office also reported that 8 FIRs have been filed for submitting false documents for voter registration in the Okhla Assembly constituency, and stringent action is being considered.
“If political parties have concerns regarding any additions, deletions, or modifications made to the electoral roll during the special summary revision period and continuous updates, they may lodge their objections with the respective ERO/AERO/BLO,” the statement added.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that the addition of names will continue until the final date for filing nominations, stressing the importance for voters to ensure their names are accurately listed in the electoral rolls, as merely having a voter ID card does not guarantee voting rights.
It reiterated that possession of a voter ID card alone does not ensure the right to vote.
“Any individual who submits a false statement or declaration in writing concerning the preparation, revision, or correction of an electoral roll, or regarding the inclusion or exclusion of any entry, shall face penalties under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which may include imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both,” stated the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer.
