Guwahati, April 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasized on Monday that establishing robust healthcare institutions is a key focus for the state government.

In a statement on X, CM Sarma expressed, “On #WorldHealthDay, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those dedicated individuals who tirelessly work to ensure the health of our community. We reaffirm our commitment to allocate resources for the development of healthcare facilities, support healthcare professionals, and promote accessible healthcare for all.”

As per the Chief Minister, the government is actively constructing 23 medical colleges, with plans to initiate work on an additional three in the upcoming year.

“For a lengthy period, there were merely three medical colleges during the tenure of the Congress party. We are now establishing 23 medical colleges across the state, and we aim to begin construction of three more in the districts of Darang, Hojai, and Hailakandi within the next year,” he stated.

CM Sarma mentioned that there is at least one university in every district throughout Assam. “We have set up universities in Hojai, Nagaon, Cachar, Bajali, and Lakhimpur - almost every district in the state has a university under construction or nearing completion,” he noted.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s ambition to construct a bridge over the Brahmaputra in each district.

He added, “In conjunction with universities and medical colleges, we are building bridges across the Brahmaputra River. No one could have envisioned Assam’s rapid development. We are on the path to becoming one of the advanced states in the nation.”

Additionally, under the microfinance incentive and relief scheme, over 78,000 borrowers have benefited from the state government’s relief initiative aimed at restoring creditworthiness and ensuring financial stability.

The CM shared, “Over 3.23 lakh bicycles have been distributed to school students across the state, along with 48,673 scooters for outstanding students under various schemes.” Nearly 27,000 top scorers in the Class 10 exams have received cash rewards, he added.
