Guwahati, March 26 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Wednesday that the state government is tirelessly working to protect the wild animals in Kaziranga National Park, leading to an expansion of their habitats.

In a post on his X handle, CM Sarma stated, “We are expanding faunal habitats. During regular patrols, Biswanath Police encountered a tiger at the 6th extension of Kaziranga National Park located in Biswanath. Our commitment to creating suitable habitats for our wildlife and ensuring their safety around the clock allows them to flourish.”

Previously, CM Sarma highlighted that Assam has experienced a remarkable increase in tourism, attracting over three crore domestic tourists within the last four years.

This rise in visitors indicates Assam’s growing status as a top travel destination in India.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state’s rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and enhanced infrastructure have been crucial in drawing tourists.

“Assam has emerged as a beloved tourism spot, attracting travelers from all over the country,” he remarked.

In addition to domestic tourists, CM Sarma noted that since 2021, more than 60,000 international visitors have discovered Assam. This increasing number of global travelers highlights the state’s expanding presence in the tourism industry.

The Chief Minister credited numerous government initiatives aimed at improving connectivity, conserving cultural sites, and promoting ecotourism for this growth.

With its lush terrains, wildlife sanctuaries like Kaziranga National Park, and vibrant festivals, Assam is steadily establishing itself as a premier travel destination in India.

CM Sarma also observed that the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has seen a significant influx of tourists, particularly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site last year.

PM Modi made history as the first Prime Minister to spend a night at Kaziranga National Park, visiting the site in March 2024 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
